Why Google’s New AI Search Guide Confirms We’re Building in the Right Direction

Google just released an official guide on how to optimize websites for AI-powered search experiences like AI Overviews and AI Mode. After reading through it carefully, I honestly think this should reassure us that we are on the right path with both our product and our customer approach.

One of the biggest takeaways for me is that Google clearly states SEO fundamentals still matter. AI search is not replacing SEO, it is built on top of it through systems like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and query fan-out.

In practice, this means AI systems still rely on strong, crawlable, relevant, and well-structured content from the web.

And importantly: much of what Google recommends is already deeply embedded into how we work with customers today.

We are SEO-first

We start with data, search performance, authority analysis, and the customer’s unique offer before creating a strategy. Google’s guide strongly reinforces that foundational SEO remains critical for AI visibility.

We already think in query fan-out

Google highlights “query fan-out” as a key AI search mechanism where systems expand searches into related questions and intents. This is very similar to how we already expand search intent and discover adjacent user questions to create content that satisfies real demand.

We focus on expertise, not commodity content

Google repeatedly emphasizes unique perspectives and first-hand expertise while warning against generic AI content. That is exactly why we continuously improve content together with customers and inject their expertise, experiences, and opinions into the blogs.

Our strategies are people-first by design

Google warns against creating pages purely to manipulate rankings or AI systems. We instead focus heavily on real customer pain points, informational needs, and useful content that genuinely helps the audience.

We combine AI with human expertise

Google confirms AI-assisted content is completely fine when it respects Search Essentials and spam policies. That is exactly our approach: combining AI efficiency with human expertise, technical oversight, and controlled publishing quality.

Technical SEO remains critical

Google repeatedly highlights crawlability, rendering, indexing, semantic structure, and page experience as important foundations for AI visibility. This is why we continuously monitor technical SEO aspects like page speed, crawlability, rendering, indexing, and structure for our customers.

Readability and user experience still matter

Google stresses the importance of well-structured, easy-to-follow, people-first content. That is why we adapt content to the customer’s tone of voice and target audience while optimizing readability throughout every stage of writing and optimization.

We do not stop at publishing

Google strongly reinforces the importance of overall usefulness and user satisfaction. Through regular check-ins, we continuously improve page experience and blog templates so traffic flows deeper into meaningful business goals like leads and revenue.

Google Quietly Dismissed Most AI SEO “Hacks”

Another very important takeaway from the guide is that Google explicitly dismisses many current “AI SEO hacks”. They directly mention things like llms.txt obsession, forced chunking, or rewriting content specifically for AI systems as unnecessary.

Instead, they repeatedly come back to the same principles:

  • Create genuinely useful content
  • Keep websites technically strong
  • Build for people first

Honestly, I think this is an important signal for the entire industry.

Because right now there is a growing tendency to overcomplicate AI visibility and treat it as something completely detached from SEO itself. But after reading Google’s official guidance carefully, I honestly feel even more convinced that sustainable visibility in both Search and AI systems will still come from doing the fundamentals exceptionally well.
